Eight talented young people from Hull have been given a big boost as they look to begin careers in music.
The Rotary Club of Humberside, in partnership with Hull Music Service, announced the new recipients of its music tuition bursary scheme at a presentation evening at The Albemarle Centre.
The youngsters will be given financial support to help with instrumental or singing lessons throughout their time in secondary education.
The scheme, in its seventh year, now sees 35 young people receiving financial support.
Paul Lees, president of Rotary Club of Humberside, said “The aim of the scheme is to help some of Hull’s talented young musicians fully develop their potential in the hope their confidence and enthusiasm from their success helps to motivate their entire educational experience and outcome.

“The scheme focuses on providing financial help to support the costs of their specialist tuition and is generated from fund raising events held with Hull Music Service and the generous support we receive from local and national charitable organisations and businesses who recognise the benefit the scheme provides.”
James Dickinson, head of Hull Music Service, said “Rotary clubs all over the UK have consistently supported and championed music education.
“This bursary scheme provided in the partnership with The Rotary Club of Humberside, however, must be one of the most substantial programmes of its kind, with young musicians receiving support for up to seven years.
“This scheme makes a substantial impact on the musical lives of its recipients.”
