Thousands of people made their way around Hull last night as the city was illuminated by Navigate, a three-day light and sound event in the city centre.
Crowds gazed at four captivating installations that lit up Queen Victoria Square, Trinity Square and Prince’s Dock, as well as illuminating the skyline over the city centre.
Meridian lights up Hull Maritime Museum and projects lasers into the sky.
The event has been organised by Hull City Council to celebrate the the start of the Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City project.
Navigate returns tonight (Friday 31 January) and Saturday, from dusk until 9pm each evening. Oracle, the floating lighthouse/weather station, will remain in Prince’s Dock for a further six weeks following the event.

Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City is Hull’s latest major project, with £27.4m set to be invested in the city’s maritime site in the next few years, celebrating its 800-year maritime heritage.

Councillor Dave Craker, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “Hull has a proud cultural heritage and a strong artistic identity, catapulted by the success of Hull City of Culture 2017. Art and culture will play an important part in Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City and we are already working with artists to discuss how their talents and creativity can be incorporated into other elements of the project.
“This incredible installation from Kazimier is a great example of how art and culture can play an important role in the exciting regeneration and future of our city.”
Zenith, in Queen Victoria Square, features a chorus of kinetic sculptures producing an immersive sonic landscape of the sea.
