A community facility dedicated to supporting people with alcohol problems has reopened following a £133,000 refurbishment.
The Bransholme Alcohol Hub – which is based near North Point Shopping Centre but can be used by people living anywhere in Hull – has undergone a series of improvements. The IT suite has been updated and a dedicated area for group work created. Accessibility has been improved and décor has been refreshed.
The hub is an important part of the city’s alcohol service, which is commissioned by Hull City Council and provided by national charity Change Grow Live, which operates locally as ReNew. The refreshed facility was officially reopened by Councillor Gwen Lunn, portfolio holder for Public and Adult Social Care at Hull City Council, at an event on January 17.

Former service user Frank, who has gone on to support ReNew as a volunteer and peer mentor, said: “The investment in ReNew’s Alcohol hub is fantastic. One of the hardest parts of recovery is walking through the door and coming into services but ReNew have created such a warm and welcoming space that truly helps to relieve some of those anxieties, creating a positive environment for recovery.”
Councillor Lunn said: “This is very welcome investment, thanks to funding from Public Health England (PHE), which has completely revitalised the hub. The care and support people receive there is exceptional and now the facility is too. A space to feel relaxed and secure can be an important part of the recovery process and ReNew have really built that into the space they have on Bransholme.”
Carlie Dunn, alcohol project manager at ReNew, said: “The refurbished building makes much better use of the available space.
“It’s now a much more comfortable and appealing environment and we also have better facilities for people to use to search and apply for jobs, education and training as part of their recovery.”
