Dog owners can look after their best friend with a session tomorrow offering a free basic health check and free microchipping.
National Charity Dogs Trust is working with Hull City Council on the drop-in event tomorrow at Eastmount Community Recreation Centre, Waveney Road, 11am – 3pm. People can turn up without an appointment (but with their dogs) and get a basic health and weight check, nail clipping, microchipping and advice on updating chip details.
The specialists there will also provide advice on diet, training and neutering and have other tips and useful resources available.
Helen Foulson, animal welfare officer at Hull City Council, said: “It is a legal requirement to have your dog microchipped and your details up to date – we can and do prosecute where necessary when we pick up a dog whose owners have not bothered to do this.
“This event is a great chance to make sure your dog meets those legal requirements and can be quickly and easily returned to you if they manage to get lost. It’s also an opportunity to have the team from Dogs Trust carry out some basic health checks and get any advice you might need to keep your dog healthier.
“As we all start to think about Christmas, this is also a good time to remind people that a dog is a long-term commitment, not a cute impulse present. They need love, time, attention and there are financial considerations like insurance and vets’ bills. For those people who are ready for the commitment a dog involves, please consider a rescue – we have dogs right now at Carr House Rescue Centre who are looking for someone to give them their forever home.”
