5 things to do in Hull this weekend

Your weekly events round-up starts early this week.

With plenty happening in Hull on Thursday, our weekend is now four days long, starting with the excellent Trinity Live, which showcases not only some fantastic unsigned bands but also some of the city’s best street food, craft beer and shopping.

Here are 5 things to do in Hull this weekend … and on Thursday:

1. Trinity Live
Trinity Market
Thursday 6pm
Free

This great weekly event, organised by those behind the Humber Street Sesh, features live music provided by up-and-coming acts and local artists.

Trinity Live takes place at Trinity Market every Thursday evening.

Many of the food and drink outlets, craft beer sellers and shopping stalls at one of the Old Town’s best spots will also be open. Learn more here.

2. Wild Challenge Trail with RSPB
Museums Quarter Gardens
Thursday 11am-3pm
Free

Our natural world is facing unprecedented challenges with habitat loss having a significant impact on many of our much loved species.

At this workshop, you can take part in a free wild challenge trail and chat with RSPB staff about how everyone can give nature a home, no matter how big or small the garden. Learn more here.

3. Reflection: British Art in an Age Of Change
Ferens Art Gallery
Saturday 10am
Free

This major partnership exhibition features more than 120 artworks, drawn jointly from the Ingram Collection of Modern British and Contemporary Art and the Ferens collection. A number of Ferens works are rarely seen treasures, including watercolours, prints and drawings less often on public display due to their fragility to light.

Reflection presents a dynamic and diverse vision of Britain and British art, which asks questions about identity and belonging. Learn more here.

4. Permaculture Workshop
Humber Street Gallery
Saturday 1pm
Free

Join artist and grower Andrea Ku to learn about permaculture.

Andrea will discuss how crops and wildlife can live in harmony and growing food crops in suboptimal conditions, such as sandy soil, low light or little space. Book here.

5. The Three Kingdoms
East Riding Theatre
Until Saturday 24 August, 10.30am and 2.30pm
From £6

This performance in one of the region’s best theatres outside of Hull promises to take you where anything is possible and what you want, you will always get. Salmon Ella, Umbar Ella and Acapp Ella have inherited The Three Kingdoms, one third each, with the freedom to rule exactly as they wish, but the power of choice proves too much.

A modern-day fairy-tale about teamwork, togetherness and the power of three. Book tickets here.
