One of the highlights of last year’s spectacular Urban Legends: Northern Lights event, from Absolutely Cultured, has been nominated for a prestigious global art prize, the Lumen Prize.
Ship of the Gods, by artists Anna Heinrich and Leon Palmer, saw Hull’s maritime history merge with stunning Norwegian landscapes to create a spellbinding installation in Hull Minster.
The piece was inspired by the Norse myth of Skidbladnir, a magical shape-shifting vessel large enough to carry the gods and their equipment, and then be folded up to fit inside a pocket.
Ship of the Gods has been nominated in the moving image category for this year’s Lumen Prize.
Hull’s Arctic Corsair, the Spurn Lightship and models found within Hull Maritime Museum and Hull and East Riding Museum all featured in the installation.
The Lumen Prize celebrates the very best art created with technology through a global competition, exhibitions and events worldwide run by Lumen Art Projects.
