Some might say the timing of Liam Gallagher’s Hull concert is not ideal for this year’s Humber Street Sesh.
But organisers of the huge Hull music festival would not agree.
Festival director Mark Page said the coincidental timing of the two events on Saturday 3 August is “awesome” for the city.
Mark said he was “feeling supersonic” about the announcement of the former Oasis frontman’s gig, which coincides with day two of the UK’s biggest festival for unsigned talent.
“There’s no moaning from us at HSS,” he said in a Facebook post. “None whatsoever.
“Johnny Marr and Liam Gallagher both coming to Hull in the same week of Humber Street Sesh is awesome for the city.”
Mark said with more than 30,000 people expected in Hull Marina for the Sesh, this was an “opportunity for Hull to grab some national media attention over the weekend”.
“We’ve known about Liam and the MTV show for a little while, and the lucky 700 who grabbed tickets this morning are in for a day to remember on Saturday August 3rd. Hopefully SOME of them will join us at HSS too,” he said in the post.
“Grab yourself a parka …. don’t look back in anger, and come join us for what promises to be a magical weekend. Roll with it.”
Garry Taylor, Hull City Council’s assistant director of major projects, said: “We think the timing of these two huge events is great for Hull. Many of those going to see Liam Gallagher will be visitors to the city – and plenty will leave Hull City Hall and head straight for the wonderful music festival going on nearby.”
