Work to improve Eastern Cemetery in Hull will begin on Monday 17 June.
The work will create 1,150 new spaces as Hull City Council capital investment will mean burials will continue to take place for the next 20 years.
New efficient drainage systems will be installed, meaning the ground will be in optimum condition.
Some roads will be re-laid and new paths laid in this area. Paths and roads in other parts of the cemetery will not be touched.
Bereavement services manager Richard Barker said: “These works are essential to the secure the future use of Eastern Cemetery and will provide a much-improved experience for visitors.
“We will have staff on site for the first two weeks of the work available to answer any questions people may have and would like to thank visitors in advance for their understanding and patience during this time.”
The work is expected to last around 13 weeks.
