Hull City Council has confirmed that Ennerdale (north) will re-open northbound on Friday 31 July, following a 10-week closure as part of a major scheme of works to improve and increase the capacity of the Ennerdale Leisure Centre roundabout.
In May, a full road closure was put in place between the Thomas Clarkson Way / Ennerdale junction and Littondale to enable CityFibre to carry out required works. Littondale remained open throughout.
CityFibre’s contractor has now completed these works and is moving on to install and switch connection to the replacement fibre optic cable, which requires additional time and means traffic management will remain in place, with the southbound carriageway closed until mid-September.
To allow CityFibre to complete these essential works, and to avoid a further closure later in the year, the council has agreed to extend the closure, southbound only and approve the permit.
So, while traffic will be able to travel northbound again, a diversion will be in place southbound, as follows:
Buses via:
- Sutton Road
- Holwell Road
- Nidderdale
- Littondale.
All other traffic:
- Ennerdale
- Bude Road
- John Newton Way
- Thomas Clarkson Way.
During the 10-week closure, significant progress has been made, including:
- installation of a new surface water drainage system
- installation of a new combined kerb drainage system
- installation of a new filter drain system
- completion of diversions by Yorkshire Water
- completion of diversions by Northern Power Grid
The council’s contractor – Hessle-based CR Reynolds Ltd – also used the opportunity to complete several tasks programmed for later in the scheme, including:
- completion of the kerb tie-in works adjacent to the signalised crossing (originally programmed for November)
- part of the road widening on the southbound approach to the roundabout
- ground stabilisation works within the widened section of the southbound approach to the roundabout.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “We’d like to thank our residents, businesses and everyone travelling through this area for their continued patience while these works are carried out.
“We know roadworks are frustrating, but it is important that the network has the capacity to keep people moving safely.
“As the area continues to grow, these improvements are an investment in Kingswood’s future and will help reduce congestion in the years ahead.
“While we had hoped to re-open Ennerdale (north) in both directions this week, continuing the closure in one direction to allow CityFibre to complete their works is better for road users than further delays at a later date.
“By opening the northbound carriageway, we can support local residents and businesses and start getting traffic moving again.
