Hull City Council has teamed up with Safer Roads Humber, Good Egg Safety CIC, and the Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver a series of free child car seat safety events.

Starting this month, eight events will take place across Hull this year, offering families expert checks and advice to ensure their car seats are correctly installed and fully compatible with their vehicle and child.

Following last year’s events, data revealed that more than half (62%) of child seats checked in Hull between April 2025 and March 2026 by Good Egg Safety, were incorrectly fitted.

Further, 33% had major errors or were incompatible with the vehicle or child, which could result in serious harm in a collision.

Properly installed child car seats are paramount for safeguarding young passengers during travel, making events like these crucial for raising awareness and promoting best practices.

Angela Blake, assistant director of major projects and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “By providing these free child seat checks, we aim to empower parents and carers with the knowledge needed to protect young passengers.

“Together with Safer Roads Humber and Good Egg Safety, we hope to reduce the risk of avoidable injuries and promote safer travel for our youngest residents.”

The events will take place at the following locations, dates and times:

  • Tuesday 14 April– Asda car park, Kingswood Retail Park, Bude Rd, HU7 3DA
  • Tuesday 19 May – Asda car park, Mount Pleasant, HU9 2BN

Good Egg Safety, an internationally awarded, non-profit organisation, funded by Government and local authorities, is a specialist in child passenger safety. They provide expert guidance, training, and resources to ensure families travel safely.

Janis James MBE, CEO for Good Egg Safety CIC said: “Despite growing awareness, our latest Hull data shows that 62% of child car seats checked were incorrectly fitted, with over a third involving major or incompatible issues that could significantly increase the risk of serious injury in a collision.

“These findings reinforce just how vital these free community events are. By working in partnership with Hull City Council and Safer Roads Humber, we are not only identifying and correcting potentially dangerous mistakes, but empowering families with the knowledge and confidence to keep their children safe on every journey.”

Safer Roads Humber, the regional road safety partnership, expressed delight in supporting the events. Ruth Gore, spokesperson for the partnership, emphasized, “Our mission is to reduce the number of people killed and injured on our roads, and these events exemplify effective partnership working – a joint commitment to safeguarding our most vulnerable passengers.”

The events have been funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner, Safer Roads Humber and Hull City Council, and are open to all Hull road users.

The events are free and will run from 10am to 3pm. No booking is required.
