Hull City Council has confirmed footpath improvements and a new zebra crossing for Richmond Lane, Kingswood, in a bid to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.

The scheme is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improve the safety of the city’s roads and footpaths, encouraging active travel options.

By upgrading the existing crossing point at the junction of School Lane with a new zebra crossing, the council aims to provide a safer crossing facility for residents, including children travelling to and from school.

In addition, by resurfacing the footpath in the immediate vicinity of the new crossing, this improves accessibility, helping to create a safer, more welcoming environment for everyone who lives, works, or travels in the area.

Works are scheduled to begin on Monday 16 February and are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete, weather permitting.

For the safety of the contractors and the traveling public, the work will be completed under a road closure, with a diversion route in place via Grosvenor Road.

However, access will be maintained for emergency services and bin collections throughout the scheme.

Letters have been delivered to all residents affected by these works.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council said: “As a council, we’re committed to creating safer, more accessible transport routes for everyone.

“The new zebra crossing and upgraded footpaths on Richmond Lane will make it easier and safer for residents to move around their community, encouraging more people to choose walking as a convenient everyday option.

“We thank the affected residents in advance for their patience and understanding while we carry out these important works.”

The scheme will be carried out by Redevelop Civil Engineering on behalf of the council.
