Another of the Hull’s sporting greats has been recognised with the renaming of Poorhouse Lane to Phil Lowe Way.
The road, which connects Preston Road to Hull KR’s Sewell Group Craven Park Stadium in east Hull, now bears the name of the iconic second-rower.
It was unveiled by his family whilst surrounded by Lowe’s closest friends, former teammates and Hull KR club officials and staff.

Phil Lowe was born and raised in the city and was prominent in The Robins’ most successful period in its history during the late 1970s to early 1980s, including the famous 1980 Challenge Cup Final victory over rivals Hull FC.
His glittering career with Hull KR saw him score 179 tries in 418 appearances in-between securing Australia’s NSWRL premiership with Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 1976.
On the international stage, Lowe also made history, representing Great Britain with distinction, playing a key role in their 1972 Rugby League World Cup triumph.
Cllr Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, said: “It was a pleasure to work with Hull KR for the renaming of Phil Lowe Way and to be able to attend the sign unveiling.
“Phil Lowe was one of my heroes growing up as a Hull KR fan and this city has a proud history of recognising its sporting greats through the renaming of street names.
“The council was delighted to be able to do so once again, remembering one of Hull KR’s greatest ever players.”
Neil Hudgell, owner of Hull KR, added: “The club was delighted to be able to commemorate Phil with the renaming of Phil Lowe Way, a fantastic accolade for him.
“He’s only the third rugby league player in Hull to have the honour of the road named after him and only the second to do so in red lettering.
“It’s only a small road, but a significant one for us as a club, as it leads to our stadium and we’d like to thank the council for its support with the renaming and for understanding what sport means to the people of this city.
“It’s a great way to end 2025 in what has been the most successful year in the club’s history following our treble win.”
