Hessle Road Flyover, Hull.

Council appoints Mason Clark Associates to investigate Hessle Road Flyover

Hull City Council has selected Mason Clark Associates to progress comprehensive investigations on Hessle Road Flyover.

Over the next 12 months, Mason Clark Associates will undertake detailed investigations on the flyover’s deck.

These works will provide crucial information to help the council determine the feasibility of future strengthening works to ensure the structure’s long-term resilience.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “The appointment of Mason Clark Associates is a necessary step in ensuring the long-term safety and resilience of Hessle Road Flyover.

“The investigation works will provide essential information to determine the feasibility of a future strengthening programme, helping to protect a key transport route for the city.”

Andy Thompson, director of bridges at Mason Clark Associates said: “As a Hull-based company, we are delighted to be working alongside Hull City Council on a key transport structure.

“Our team of dedicated engineers are ready to investigate the condition of the structure, to determine if a future strengthening scheme is feasible.”

It should be anticipated that these investigations will require some disruption to traffic over the next 12 months. However, the council and Mason Clark Associates are committed to minimising the impact on the city’s traffic flow.

In the meantime, the flyover retains sufficient loading capacity to operate safely and is currently open to all traffic.
