Hull’s International Choir Competition returns this weekend, bringing over 1000 singers from across the globe to the city.
This world-class event, part of INTERKULTUR’s global choir competition series, returns to Hull following a spectacular debut in 2023. This year, choirs will gather in Hull for a week of competition, collaboration and choral celebration. This includes free performances in Trinity Market, Paragon Interchange and Princes Quay and a gala concert at Hull Minster.
The opening concert on Friday 2 May will feature the Hull Lord Mayor’s Youth Choir, who will perform traditional folk songs from the British Isles (17th–19th centuries), and the debut of the ‘Voices of Hull’ – a one-off choir project uniting adult singers from across the city, including members from Hull Visual Voices and Sight Support Choir, under the baton of Richard Sleight.
Free friendship concerts will take place across the weekend at Trinity Market, Hull Paragon Interchange and the ground floor of Princes Quay for visitors to the city centre.
Chris Jackson, director for regeneration at Hull City Council, said: “We’re delighted to have the competition returning to Hull this weekend, providing entertainment across the city centre.
“Across ticketed concerts and free public performances, there is something for everyone.”
