Council announces upcoming footpath improvement works

Essential resurfacing works are set to begin in Hull’s West Carr area, delivering much-needed enhancements to the city’s footpaths.

As part of Hull City Council’s investment in the city’s footpaths, essential improvement works are due to take place on Malpas Close, Padstow Close, Kingscott Close, Cookbury Close, and Ashworthy Close, from tomorrow (Wednesday 16 April).

The scheme will involve resurfacing areas of the footpaths which have deteriorated, as well as addressing sections on Ashworthy Close and Malpas Close that have been vandalised by arson.

Once finished, the newly improved footpaths will provide a safe and even surface for local residents, while also enhancing a number of green spaces within the neighbourhood.

The works are due to start tomorrow, and take eight weeks to complete – weather permitting – and will be completed in the following order to reduce the impact on residents:

Phase one: Malpas Close

Phase two: Padstow Close

Phase three: Kingscott Close

Phase four: Cookbury Close

Phase five: Ashworthy Close

Letters will be issued to all residents affected by the works in advance of the scheme starting, to inform them of the start dates.

To ensure the safety of the contractors and the public, the works will be undertaken using footpath closures. Access will be maintained for residents at all times.

Gillian Osgerby, interim assistant director for major projects and infrastructure at Hull City Council, said: “It is crucial that we repair and maintain our city’s footpaths, preventing further deterioration and ensuring longevity.

“This scheme also aligns with our broader community plan for Hull to create safe and welcoming neighbourhoods for our residents.

“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.”

The scheme will be carried out by M.B Roche and Sons Limited on behalf of the council.
