Hull City Council is pleased to announce the next phase of Love Your Neighbourhood footpath improvements.
In addition to the footpath improvement works currently underway in the Holderness area (Love Your Neighbourhood: Footpath improvement works to commence in Holderness area – Hull CC News) the council has confirmed the next phase of works will commence in West Hull’s Boothferry and Derringham wards from today (Thursday 13 March).
The scheme will involve resurfacing and reconstructing sections of footpath on Ampleforth Grove, Helmsley Grove, Helmsley Avenue and Ainthorpe Grove.
These streets were identified as being in need of improvement, during a Love Your Neighbourhood ‘patch walk’.
The team noted that the footpaths have significantly deteriorated and are in need of urgent repair.
Once completed the newly improved footpaths will provide accessible, safe and even surfaces for local residents.
To minimise disruption, the works will be carried out in the following phases:
- Ampleforth Grove (North side from Speeton Grove to number 62 and South side from number 35 around to number 4 Helmsley Grove): Thursday 13 March to Friday 4 April
- Hemsley Grove (North side from number 62 to Woodlands Road and South side from Garton Grove to Woodlands Road): Monday 7 April to Friday 25 April
- Ainthorpe Grove (West side from Helmsley Grove to Willerby Road and East side from Helmsley Grove to Ampleforth Grove): Monday 28 April to Friday 16 May
- Ampleforth Grove (South side from Helmsley Grove to Spring Bank West): Monday 19 May to Saturday 7 June
Please note that the above dates are provisional only.
Letters have been issued, in advance, to all residents affected by the works.
To allow these works to be carried out safely they will be undertaken under footpath closures, with access maintained for residents and emergency services.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at the council, said: “We are delighted to announce the next phase of the Love Your Neighbourhood footpath improvements will take place in the West area.
“This vital work continues to underscore that Love Your Neighbourhood is not only about caring for the environment and keeping our neighbourhoods clean and tidy, but also about making our communities safe and welcoming places to live and work.”
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, added: “We’re committed to making daily life better for our residents by ensuring our footpaths are safe, accessible, and well-maintained.
“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the residents as we carry out these essential works.
“By carrying out the scheme in phases, our aim is to minimise disruption while delivering significant improvements that will benefit everyone in the Boothferry and Derringham wards.
“We look forward to seeing the positive impact these enhancements will have.”
The scheme will be funded by Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood project and carried out by Atkin Surfacing Limited on behalf of the council.
