Hull City Council is preparing to begin an essential carriageway reconstruction scheme on Holderness Road next week.
As part of the council’s commitment to improving and futureproofing Hull’s road network, the Highways Capital Programme will fund an essential reconstruction scheme on Holderness Road, from Mount Pleasant to Burleigh Street.
The intention of the scheme is to reconstruct and resurface this section of the road, addressing the failed carriageway and deteriorated road surface.
These works will ensure the highway provides a safe, even, and skid-resistant surface for all road users.
Work will start on Monday 25 November, and to allow it to be done safely, it will be completed under two phases:
- Phase one: Outbound from Mount Pleasant to Burleigh Street – Monday 25 November to Saturday 30 November (lane closures only)
- Phase two: Outbound from Mount Pleasant to Burleigh Street – Sunday 1 December to Monday 2 December (road closure)
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, with signed diversion routes in place via Mount Pleasant, Old Hedon Road, Southcoates, and Holderness Road.
The pedestrian footways will remain open, and bin collections are scheduled to continue as normal.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: “The council has identified that this section of Holderness Road needs reconstructing and resurfacing, so I am pleased that it is being addressed promptly.
“This work is essential, because not only does it help keep the road safe and reliable for all users, but it contributes towards our commitment to futureproofing Hull’s road network.
“We urge motorists to take note of the diversion route, plan their journeys in advance, and use an alternative mode of transport if possible.
“I would also like to apologise in advance for any disruptions these works may cause, particularly to businesses and residents of Holderness Road.”
The scheme will be carried out by PBS Construction (NE) Limited on behalf of the council.
