Help shape Hessle Road’s future

Residents, visitors and stakeholders in the Hessle Road Conservation Area are being urged to have their say on future plans for the area.

The public are invited to give their views on the area’s heritage and how it moves forward through a Character Appraisal Survey.

Hessle Road Conservation Area was adopted by Hull City Council in 1994 and provides heritage protection for the Victorian and Edward buildings extending from 172 and 117 to 472 Hessle Road and to Gillett Street.

The council is in the process of reviewing its conservation areas, with Hessle Road being the sixth area to have been reviewed and subject to public consultation.

As part of the proposed changes, 270 Hessle Road, home to Henry Hird jewellers, would be added to the Hull Local Heritage List.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “These latest proposed changes show the council’s continued commitment to supporting Hull’s conservation areas.

“Hessle Road is an area of much diversity and character, so it will be great to hear the views of everyone who lives, works, visits and has a stake in the future of the area.”

The consultation will continue until Friday 29 November and is available online at yoursay.hull.gov.uk/hessle-road-conservation-area.

An in-person drop-in session will be held at Western Library on Boulevard on Thursday 7 November from 2-6pm.

Feedback can also be provided in writing to Nabhaa Shetty, conservation officer, Hull City Council, Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, Hull, HU1 2AA or email dev.control@hullcc.gov.uk.
