Public opinion wanted on proposed conservation areas changes

Hull City Council is seeking the views of residents, businesses, visitors and property owners within two conservation areas in west Hull to help shape their future.

The proposed changes for Ella Street and Newland Park are part of the council’s commitment to review all its conservation areas and adopt management documents for each area.

The public can have their say on the adoption of new character appraisals and management plans, as well as the removal of modern areas of development from the designated areas.

Those in Ella Street will also be asked for their thoughts on requiring planning permission for roof lights and solar panels on street facing elevations, whilst Newland Park residents and stakeholders will be asked about hardstanding areas in front gardens.

Roslyn, number 18-20 Newland Park, is also proposed to be added to the Hull Local Heritage List.

By adopting new management documents, residents will have access to guidance on what developments they can undertake to their property whilst living within a conservation area.

Cllr Paul Drake-Davis, the council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and housing, said: “The council remains committed to ensuring each of its conservation areas are appropriately supported.

“These surveys and public consultations guarantee that the people who live in these conservation areas are at the heart of shaping their future.

“For those in Ella Street, the council would particularly like to hear residents’ views on the proposed requirement of planning permission for roof lights and solar panels on street facing elevations.”

Both area consultations are now open until Friday 29 November.

Residents and property owners within the conservation area, as well as planning agents and architects preparing planning applications, will receive information on the proposals through letters and site notices.

A public drop-in session for Ella Street Conservation Area will take place on Saturday 26 October from 10am to 2pm in the Bowls Pavilion in Pearson Park.

This will be followed on Thursday 31 October from 3-7pm in The Eliot Room on the first floor of the Canham Turner building of the University of Hull’s Cottingham Road campus for Newland Park Conservation Area.
