East Park to benefit from essential footpath improvement scheme

Hull City Council has confirmed that one of the city’s most cherished parks, East Park, will benefit from essential footpath improvement works this month (October).

The scheme will involve renewing areas of the footpath between the animal shelter and the play park, which is currently in a deteriorated state.  Once finished the newly improved footpath will provide a safe and even surface for all uses.

This initiative is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the city’s green spaces and ensuring safe and accessible footpaths for residents and visitors.

The work is scheduled to begin on Monday 7 October and is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete – weather permitting.

To allow these works to be done safely, they will be undertaken using partial footpath closures, carried out in five phases. Access will be maintained for users of the play park and the Animal Shelter.

The existing footpath is in a deteriorated state.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at Hull City Council, said: “East Park is very popular with the residents of Hull, so we must ensure that the footpaths remain safe, usable, and accessible to all.

“We are dedicated to investing in our city’s footpaths and ensuring that our parks and open spaces are maintained to the highest standards, and this resurfacing work is a key part of that effort.

“This scheme also aligns with our broader community plan for Hull to create more safe and welcoming neighbourhoods as well as make the city healthier, fairer and more environmentally friendly.”

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at Hull City Council, added: “East Park is one of Hull’s most cherished green spaces, so maintaining its functionality is a top priority for us.

“This scheme will not only improve the look of the park but will ensure it remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone to visit.

“We would like to thank our park users for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.”

The scheme has been funded by Hull City Council’s Capital Programme for Parks and Open Spaces for 2024/25 and will be carried out by Roche Civil Engineering Limited on behalf of the council.
