Plimsoll Way works completed ahead of schedule

An essential resurfacing scheme on Plimsoll Way in Hull has been completed ahead of schedule.

The work began on Monday 2 September, with road closures and temporary traffic signals expected to be in place until Wednesday 25 September.

However, following the completion of the final resurfacing works and road marking installations, the road has reopened this afternoon, Friday 13 September – almost two weeks ahead of schedule.

The three-phase works were required to reconstruct and resurface areas of the existing failed carriageway, between the junction of The Haven to South Bridge Road, including the roundabout.

The scheme was completed by Wright Civil Engineering Limited, with road users now able to enjoy a safer carriageway that has adequate grip and skid resistance.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at Hull City Council, said: “I am delighted that the resurfacing works on Plimsoll Way have been completed ahead of schedule – just in time for the weekend.

“This is thanks to the efficiency of our contractors Wright Civil Engineering Limited.

“Not only has this scheme helped us futureproof our road network, but it has also helped make the road safer for all users.

“Investing in our road network also helps the council in its aim to develop safe and welcoming neighbourhoods and create a healthier and fairer Hull, as set out in the community plan.

“We understand that these works caused some disruption to motorists, and we thank them for their patience.”
