Hull’s Trinity Market is to have a year-long artist showcase for the first time.
Hull-based artist Keith Key will display different pieces in the historic venue during the 12-month programme.
His work has already been seen in the Market, for the King’s Coronation earlier this year, with his piece ‘God Save The Royal Tree’ being welcomed warmly by shoppers and traders alike.
Keith will produce six more pieces throughout the year – the first, above, being unveiled today – adding a further cultural element to the Market, which already hosts live music and other events.
Keith said: “I am so excited about working with Trinity Market over the year.
“As a local Hull artist, currently studying at Hull College of Fine Arts and The University of Hull, it is a fantastic opportunity for me to display my art in such an iconic music, shopping and arts venue.”
Neil Sunlay, manager of Trinity Market, said: “We hope Keith’s works can help bring even more people to our vibrant market.
With Trinity Market being considered as a possible permanent location for Hull’s Banksy, we’re adding to the already numerous cultural offerings in the city.”
Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “It’s great that the market is hosting different cultural experiences, where we’re supporting local artists.
“It’s great exposure for Keith’s fascinating works, and we’re really pleased that he approached the council about doing this.
“Trinity Market is already a showcase for some of the city’s best independent businesses, but it’s also a place for activity and culture.”
Hull City Council recently confirmed that Trinity Market is being considered as a possible permanent accessible location for the city’s Banksy.
