The Gower Road area of Hull is the latest to be tidied up as part of Hull City Council’s £1m Love Your Neighbourhood project.
Residents should be seeing plenty of activity in the area at the moment, with the team arriving yesterday to begin carrying out a range of environmental improvement tasks, including:
- Verge cutting
- Tree works
- Grounds maintenance
- Street cleaning
Love Your Neighbourhood is the council’s new tidy-up programme, which will tackle small areas of the city one at a time.
A new team is being set up for the project, creating 37 permanent jobs at the council.
The team will tidy each area over a two-week period, after which residents should see a noticeable difference to the look and feel of their neighbourhood.
The council is currently carrying out trials ahead of the programme beginning in earnest next month.
Over the past fortnight, the team have been clearing up the Falkland Road area, as seen in the pictures below:
Residents have praised the work of the team and the difference they have seen in the look and feel of their neighbourhood.
Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “The residents of Hull have told us that one of their top priorities is how and area looks and feels.
“This is about investing in local communities to bring them up to scratch, creating areas that people can feel proud about living in.
“It is very much a programme for the whole city.”
