Join Hull City Council and spring into action to help keep your local environment clean
The Great British Spring Clean 2022 runs from 25 March to 10 April, encouraging all to take up a green initiative and tidy up a local area.
Hosted by charity Keep Britain Tidy, this year’s campaign ‘One bag – big difference’ calls on local residents, workplaces and schools to pledge to pick up a bag of litter from nearby streets, beauty spots and beaches, and dispose of the waste correctly.
In recent years, when outdoor spaces have been so critical to general wellbeing and mental health, the charity reveals taking eco-action outdoors has a significant positive impact on both those who take part and on those who visit the area.
During this year’s campaign, Hull City Council will take the following action:
- On March 29, the council’s Streetscene team and local businesses are conducting a litter pick around Sutton Fields in an effort to clean up the area
- New green bags, to be used for collecting rubbish during a clean-up event, are available at Hull Libraries and various Customer Service Centres – as well as Woodford Leisure Centre and the Rainbow Centre, Wheeler Street. Members of the public can collect these at any time.
- The Litter Guidance document has been refreshed, which can be accessed here: www.hull.gov.uk/LoveYourStreet. This lays out the “do’s and don’ts” of litter picking in the local community.

The Love Your Street team can loan equipment to anyone who wishes to organise a community clean-up event, such as litter pickers, graffiti and chewing gum removal kits, litter collection sacks and gloves.
