To celebrate Yorkshire Day on Thursday 1 August, an army of 100 volunteers are travelling to the capital for an East Yorkshire takeover.
Volunteers will hand out white roses, postcards and chip spice and chat with Londoners about all the great things the region has to offer.
They will also encourage them to enter a competition to win a short break to Hull, Yorkshire Wolds or the Coast.
The takeover has been organised by Hull Trains, in partnership with Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) and HEY! Volunteering.
Volunteers will travel in comfort and style to London from Hull on one of the operator’s seven direct services for their memorable Yorkshire Day adventure.
They will visit locations across the capital, including Camden and the Regent’s Park.
Hull City Councillor Rob Pritchard is the portfolio holder for Leisure and Culture at the council. He is one of the volunteers who will make the journey. He said: “We know how special our region is, but not everyone knows about what Hull and East Yorkshire has to offer. It’s a great opportunity to spread the word about East Yorkshire to the people of London and hopefully, will form part of making Hull a world class visitor destination. I hope we will inspire some people to come pay us a visit.”
Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Hull Trains, said “As a company that’s proudly based in Yorkshire and transports record numbers of people to and from our great region day in, day out, we’re immensely proud to be showcasing our support for Yorkshire Day and working with local partners to take this year to even greater heights along our route including Beverley, Hull, Selby, Doncaster and London.
“We’re particularly proud to be celebrating all that’s great about our part of the world and the many great things to do in and around our home city of Hull, a destination of rich maritime heritage and also the home of Chip Spice. We’re committed to showcasing Hull and East Yorkshire by working with Visit Hull and East Yorkshire to ultimately encourage more people to travel there the best way possible – on Hull Trains!”
