Local artist Erin Ledsom was commissioned by Hull City Council to create a piece of artwork recognising and honouring the vital contribution of frontline workers during the pandemic.
Erin has now completed the piece, which will go on display in the Guildhall.
Erin is an embroidery artist from Hull and a recent graduate of the prestigious Royal College of Needlework. Her colourful and textured work often draws inspiration from her home town. She was Future Ferens Young and Emerging Talent winner at the 2021 Ferens Open Exhibition.
Erin said: “I feel honoured that I was chosen to work on this commission for the city council and be the first-ever artist in residence at The Ferens Art Gallery!
“This piece of work is very special to me, and I hope through my design and embroidery skills I have shown just how much we all appreciate what frontline workers have done for our city in very difficult times.
“This is something I will never forget, and I feel incredibly lucky for this opportunity! “
The artwork will be on display at The Ferens until Sunday 4 December for everyone to view, and will then take up residency in The Guildhall.
Council Leader, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “The Coronavirus pandemic was an extremely stressful and demanding time for everyone. So many people worked flat out to help the city through the difficult times. I’m pleased we now have a permanent reminder of the dedication and hard work of the council staff, who supported Hull’s residents and businesses, and in many cases going above and beyond.
“Erin has produced a great piece of art that recognises the vital contribution of council employees during the pandemic.”
The commission is being supported by the Rupert Alec Smith Trust Fund and the Arts Council.
