New free healthy weight scheme launches

A free support service focussing on nutrition and activity is now available for people in Hull. Healthy Hull provides comprehensive support for adults who want to eat well, move more and feel better. The 26-week programme promises to help people change their relationship with food, exercise more and maintain a healthy weight.

Commissioning and Service Development Manager for Public Health at Hull City Council, said: “A lot of people tend to think about getting healthier in the new year and Healthy Hull is a great way to achieve that. It’s not about a faddy diet or unsustainable exercising. It’s about finding ways to eat well and move more that really work and fit in with day-to-day life.

People can access Healthy Hull by referring themselves, or speaking to their GP or other health professional.

“The programme includes unlimited access to Hull Culture and Leisure (HCAL) leisure centres. That means people can find movement that works for them, at times that work for them. You could try swimming, a range of sports including badminton and tennis, yoga, high-intensity classes or much lower impact sessions.

“You get one-to-one support to make sure the programme is right for you and to keep you on-track. Many of us have struggled to stay healthy through the pandemic, with more time spent indoors and at home. This could be the perfect way to break cycles of eating unhealthily and struggling to find the motivation to move”.

The service is for anyone with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 39.9 aged over 18. To understand how to work out your BMI, follow this link: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/.
