Motorists in Hull are being asked to avoid travelling around the city this weekend, as critical roadworks take place to improve the city’s transport network.
A number of essential roadworks are currently taking place across Hull, including the multi-million pound upgrade to Stoneferry Corridor, improvements to Hessle Road, Anlaby Road and Holderness Road, and the major upgrade to the A63.
This weekend will also see the closure of the A63, so that the final stages of work to Murdoch’s Connection can take place before its official opening. Yorkshire Water will also be rerouting the sewers to allow for construction of the new underpass, and Myton Bridge is also being repaired. The bridge will be raised so engineers can replace a number of plates.
To complete the work as safely and quickly as possible, the A63 will be closed between Ferensway and Roger Millward Way from 8pm on Friday 29 January until 6am on Monday 1 February. Traffic will be diverted via the A164, A1079, Sutton Road and Marfleet Lane.

Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for regeneration and economic investment, said: “As Highways England are carrying out some essential works this weekend, this will cause some traffic disruption and delays.
“We are currently finishing off the work to three of our major roads, so other traditional diversions are not readily available. There is never an ideal time to do roadworks, but at least undertaking this work during the lockdown should impact on less people than normal.”

Councillor Hale continued: “Many of these works have to be delivered within a certain timeframe as stipulated by the Department for Transport, who have provided Hull City Council with a funding boost for these major scheme improvements.
“The majority of these works should be completed by the end of March. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank motorists for their patience as this work take place.”
