Major investment announced for Gower Road Play Area refurbishment

Families in Hull can look forward to a brand-new, inclusive play space as Hull City Council announces a major refurbishment of the Gower Road Play Area.

Hull City Council has appointed Sutcliffe Play Limited to deliver a transformative programme of works that will create a vibrant, accessible, and inclusive space for children and families to enjoy.

The refurbishment will include the installation of new, modern play equipment, wet pour surfacing for improved safety and accessibility, and a communication board to support inclusive play for children with communication needs.

The entire new area will also be on one level, ensuring full accessibility for all users.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said: “This investment in Gower Road Play Area is a fantastic example of how we are working to improve outdoor spaces across Hull.

“Playgrounds are vital for children’s development, encouraging physical activity, social interaction, and imaginative play.

“I’m especially proud that this refurbishment will make the park fully accessible, ensuring that all children can enjoy the space.

“I look forward to seeing it once the work is completed. I’m sure it will be enjoyed by many for years to come.”

Hull is home to 94 play parks, many of which are well-used and valued by local communities. The council is committed to maintaining and improving these spaces to ensure they remain safe, engaging, and welcoming for future generations.

Work on Gower Road Play Area is expected to begin shortly, with completion anticipated within the next four months of the contract award.
