The Hull Helpline weekend opening hours are to be reduced in response to a fall in the volume of calls from the public.
From Sunday 31 May, the Hull Helpline will operate Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm. Requests for help can be made online via the council’s website hull.gov.uk.
In the first nine weeks of operation, the Hull Helpline received more than 6,000 calls, averaging 98 calls per day. The busiest day saw 273 referrals. However, on the past two Sundays, there has been fewer than 10 calls for help.
Councillor Stephen Brady, Leader of Hull City Council, said: “The Hull Helpline has helped thousands of people since its launch in March. We are still here for our residents and on hand to offer support to those who need it, but as the lockdown starts to be lifted I am pleased to see that most people are managing under the current restrictions and don’t need our help as much as they did initially.
“The council and our invaluable partners will continue to offer help in any way we can until this crisis is over. “
The greatest numbers of calls have been made in relation to food parcels and food shopping, making up half of the calls. Other requests have included help with financial advice, the collection of medication and the befriending service, which is important to tackle loneliness and isolation.
