Hull City Council will allocate an extra £1.5m for adult social care costs resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The move comes after the local authority supported this decision in a Cabinet meeting on Monday.
The plans form part of the council’s response on how it is handling the impact of Covid-19 on some of the city’s most vulnerable residents.
The authority’s home care, residential care, supported living and shared lives provision are currently facing unprecedented pressures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The adult social care sector is also facing rising costs as it tries to deal with the increasing demand for support.
Councillor Gwen Lunn, portfolio holder for adult services and public health, said: “Maintaining this critical service is absolutely fundamental to how we deliver adult social care to some of our most vulnerable residents.
“The health, safety and wellbeing of our residents and colleagues is of paramount importance and we are working closely with our care providers to ensure we can support them in any way possible.
“We are in regular communication with care providers to ensure they have the right information and equipment to support them in carrying out their role.”
The amendments will allow the authority to exercise a degree of flexibility to ensure the service can continue to respond to the Covid-19 crisis.
