Love Your Neighbourhood: Footpath improvement works to commence in Holderness area

As part of the Love Your Neighbourhood initiative, Hull City Council has identified several footpaths within the Holderness ward that require improvement.

The council’s continued investment in the city’s footpaths will see works take place on Motherwell Close, Burbage Avenue, Cullen Close, and Hathersage Road.

These were identified as areas in need of improvement during a Love Your Neighbourhood ‘patch walk’ around the Holderness ward, where the team observed that the footpaths are significantly deteriorated and in urgent need of repair.

The scheme will involve resurfacing and reconstructing areas of the footpaths. Once finished the newly improved footpaths will provide accessible, safe and even surfaces for local residents.

Works will start on Monday 3 March and are expected to be completed by Wednesday 30 April – weather permitting.

To reduce the impact on residents and businesses, the work will be carried out in separate phases on the following dates:

  • Motherwell Close (full length, both sides): Monday 3 March to Monday 31 March
  • Burbage Avenue (from number 14 to 84): Monday 10 March to Friday 4 April
  • Burbage Avenue (from the side of 14 Hathersage Road to 21 Burbage Avenue): Monday 17 March to Friday 11 April
  • Cullen Close (full length both sides): Monday 24 March to Friday 18 April
  • Hathersage Road (from number 274 to 336): Monday 31 March to Wednesday 30 April

Please note that the above dates are provisional only. Letters have been issued, in advance, to all residents affected by the works.

To allow these works to be done safely they will be undertaken under footpath closure, with access maintained for residents.

Councillor Charles Quinn, portfolio holder for environment at the council, said: “As well as keeping Hull clean and tidy for our residents, Identifying deteriorated footpaths has become a crucial part of our Love Your Neighbourhood initiative

“This upcoming scheme will complement the footpath improvement works already completed in the Newland and Beverley wards last year as part of the Love Your Neighbourhood programme, further enhancing the look of our city.

“This vital work continues to underscore that Love Your Neighbourhood is not only about caring for the environment and keeping our neighborhoods clean and tidy, but also about making our communities safe and welcoming places to live and work.”

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways, added: “It is crucial that we repair and maintain our city’s footpaths, preventing further deterioration and ensuring longevity, so I am pleased that the Love Your Neighbourhood team have identified further areas for improvement.

“My primary focus is the safety of all footpaths in the city, and I am confident that residents in the Holderness area will appreciate the smooth new surfaces once the work is completed. This scheme also aligns with our broader community plan for Hull, aimed at creating safe and welcoming neighborhoods for our residents.

“I appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we undertake these necessary works.”

The scheme will be funded by Hull City Council’s Love Your Neighbourhood project and carried out by Ambledon Civils Limited on behalf of the council.
