After the Local Government Association’s cross-party endorsement of the statement from Council of European Municipalities and Regions, condemning the ongoing attacks on Ukraine, the Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Daren Hale, has written to the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, offering any practical support that Hull City Council can provide.
Cllr Hale said: “We stand with the Ukrainian people and with our peers in local and regional government in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, throughout Europe and across the world.
“The ongoing attacks on Ukraine are both utterly dreadful and totally heart-breaking, and we, along with our local government colleagues, condemn the actions of the Russian Federation in the strongest possible terms.
“While the Ukrainian community in our city is relatively small, we want to ensure they are supported at this terrible time and I have also written to the Home Secretary to offer any practical support we can provide in assisting with the international refugee crisis these actions have precipitated.”
