In Hull, as across the country, whilst Covid in adults is declining, the rate amongst children and young people continues to increase. Schools continue to work hard to balance education with adopting measures to prevent the spread of Covid within schools.
Helen Christmas, Public Health lead for children and families said: “Inevitably, the increasing number of children with Covid is leading to disruption with pupils testing positive and isolating, and impacts on staffing.
“We continue to support schools and provide advice based on the local picture and individual school circumstances, which has meant we have been able to keep as many children in school as possible. Families can help by testing regularly and isolating if the results are positive to reduce the spread of Covid in the community.”
Hull City Council is asking families to make use of Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) to test pupils to help reduce Covid in schools, although anyone who has symptoms should stay at home and get a PCR test unless they have already had a positive LFT result.
Families can really help to support schools through regular testing, particularly if they are a close contact of someone with Covid.

Councillor Shane McMurray, Portfolio Holder for children’s services said: “Schools are doing an incredible job in difficult circumstances. I’d encourage any family to consider that any unwell child might have Covid and to do a test.”
