Ale Trail
Venues across Hull offer a range of low alcohol alternatives

Get ready to go dry this January!

Anyone looking to make healthy changes in 2022 is urged to take up the Dry January challenge and start the year sober. A month off alcohol could have a number of benefits, including saving money, feeling healthier, and sleeping better.

Research by Alcohol Change UK found that of those who took part in Dry January:

  • 86 per cent saved money
  • 70 per cent slept better
  • 66 per cent had more energy.

Carol Johnson, Commissioning and Development Manager for Public Health at Hull City Council, said; “It’s not about giving something up, it’s about getting something back. The past 21 months or so have been hard on us all and many of us will have been drinking more than usual at home.

“Dry January is a great motivator to stay away from alcohol for a while. Everyone tends to feel fresher and more energetic when they’re not drinking. We sleep better, consume fewer empty calories and save money.

“It’s also not about staying in. In Hull, we have our Low Ale Trail which has routes throughout the city, including in the centre, theatre quarter and avenues. The Low Ale Trail makes it really easy o find your way round pubs and bars in the city which have a great selection of low- and no-alcohol booze.

“There’s nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving it a go. Sign up and see how much better you feel”.

The Dry January app, free on App Store or Google Play, can double your chances to sticking to Dry January for the full month. Search and download now for motivational messages ahead of signing up.
