The aim of the scheme is to reduce the impact of roadworks.

Weekly update for roadworks taking place in Hull

Work to improve roads and footpaths across Hull continues this week.

Earlier this week work to improve paving along Hessle Road began, and the installation of improved cycle lanes in Beverley Road also started.

However emergency repairs in Beverley Road and Station Drive are also taking place following a gas leak earlier this week. Engineers from Northern Gas Networks are on site to resolve the issue.

Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, highways and flood prevention, said: “We’re entering a busy period for transport improvements as we approach September, so I really urge people to consider how they travel by choosing a more sustainable mode of transport. Whether this is walking, cycling or getting the bus, these small changes will help improve journey times for everyone.”

Hull City Council has also launched the second stage of its ongoing transport survey, and are now asking people to share information on how far they travel, the routes they prefer to use and what would support them to walk and cycle more.

The second phase will also aim to understand how travel habits have changed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and the findings will form part of a wider engagement project designed to help plan the future of transport and roads in Hull.

Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways, said: “The first stage of the survey covered a wide-scope of topics from congestion to different modes of travelling, including public transport.

“Naturally, we had a huge response to this. And preliminary results show that the biggest issue by far on Hull’s roads is congestion, with some of the suggested solutions including improvements to public transport and developing alternative transport methods.

“These results will help shape how we prioritise and plan future transport projects, whilst the results of the second stage of the consultation will focus around working towards developing more sustainable transport options.”

The survey will run until Monday 4 October.
