Hull Ice Arena has closed until further notice due to essential maintenance work.
An issue with the arena’s gas supply has affected the building’s air conditioning system, which could cause problems with the surface of the ice. It has also affected the arena’s hot water supply.
The work is expected to be completed next week.
Arena staff are now contacting clubs and customers to inform them of the closure. Sunday’s ice hockey match between Hull Pirates and Milton Keynes Lightning has been postponed as a result of the work.
Councillor Daren Hale, Deputy Leader of Hull City Council, said: “Work to fix the issue is taking place as quickly as possible in the hope of avoiding any more disruption to clubs and customers.
“This does demonstrates the urgent need for a brand new ice arena for the city. It is a vital part of plans for the multi-million-pound Albion Square development at the heart of the city. The old ice arena has served our region well, but is now passed it sell-buy date.
“Plans are progressing quickly, with a contractor appointed to carry out the development this month.”
