Hull Museums is celebrating the run-up to Christmas with a special digital advent calendar.
Hull Museums has teamed up with local artists and the Herd Theatre Company to create a digital advent calendar, packed full of fun and exciting treats inspired by its collections.
The calendar will be shared on social media every day from December 1 until Christmas Day.
Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “Christmas is obviously going to look a lot different this year, so credit to Hull Museums for thinking of such a creative way to celebrate the festive period.
“2020 has been incredibly tough for so many of us, and the thought of spending the Christmas period away from loved ones and not in our usual ways is another sacrifice that we are being asked to make. Hopefully Hull Museums will be able to bring a smile to our faces this December.
“I hope everyone enjoys the Christmas period and remembers to stay safe.”
The calendar will include surprises from a range of local artists who have been getting inspired by Hull Museums’ seasonal collections. This will include audio described paintings, music, dance, digital paintings, poetry and soundscapes.
Hull Museums has also produced a festive activity booklet for children and families that will be free to download from December 1 from the Humber Museums Partnership website.
Herd Theatre Company will also be offering free online workshops over the festive season for under-5s on Saturday 5 December and Saturday 12 December at 2pm.
Sam Caseley, co-director at The Herd, said: “We’re super excited to reconnect with families this Christmas. We can’t wait to introduce audiences to Bird – a brand new, hand-made puppet – who’s off to explore the wonderful collections at Ferens Art Gallery and Streetlife Museum, and show us what they find.
“Part TV show, part games session, part craft time, these live workshops for under 5s will be a lot of fun!”
The digital advent calendar will be posted each day on Hull Museums’ social media channels and on the Humber Museums Partnership website.
You can follow the digital advent calendar on the Hull Museums and Ferens Art Gallery social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
