A Hull shop has been fined almost £1,500 after committing an environmental crime.
The owners of ABC Local in Spring Bank, Hull, were prosecuted at Hull Magistrates’ Court for offences relating to the failure of managing their waste properly.
Councillor Anita Harrison, portfolio holder for waste management at Hull City Council, said: “Everyone plays a role in looking after our environment and helping to tackle fly-tipping. By taking a tough stance on enforcement, we can deter any potential offenders.
“We encourage members of the public not to shrink from reporting any perpetrators they see. We will prosecute – and those convicted will be named and shamed in the hope that we can stamp out this anti-social behaviour.”
All businesses have a legal obligation to manage their wastes responsibly.

Cllr Harrison said: “If you pay anyone to remove and dispose of your waste who is not a registered waste carrier and this is found fly-tipped in Hull, you may face enforcement action. This could be in the form of a fixed penalty, prosecution and an unlimited fine. Furthermore, conviction means a criminal record.
“Always ask to see a copy of their registered waste carrier’s certificate.”
The business was prosecuted under Section 2(1) (b) Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978 and Section 110(2) (b) Environment Act 1995.
