A historic cannon has been discovered at the site of Henry VIII’s South Blockhouse dig.
A conservator from the York Archaeological Trust visited the site to inspect the historic artefact, before it was carefully transported back to York.
It will now undergo specialist x-rays in order to determine its composition, and how it was manufactured.
Hull’s South Blockhouse is a fortress that was originally built for Henry VIII in the 1540s in support of his military campaigns.
Located close to The Deep, the South Blockhouse was built to house guns and protect the gunners and ammunition from attack.
Members of the public are welcome to visit the site during the site’s open days on Thursday 28 March, from 10.30am to 2pm, and Saturday 30th March, 10.30am to 3pm.
