In a bid to enhance road safety, Hull City Council has announced that work to install additional traffic calming measures on Pearson Park will start next week.
The work will include the installation of four road humps around Pearson Park, as well as widening the existing footpath at the junction of Park Road near the Humberside Police Station.
The scheme is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improving road safety and promoting active travel options to all residents.
The new road humps are designed to reduce vehicle speeds, thereby increasing safety for all road users. Additionally, the new widened footpath will provide more space for pedestrians, making it safer and more accessible for all.
Work is set to commence on Monday 30 September and is expected to take six weeks to complete, weather depending.
For the safety of contractors and the travelling public, the works will be undertaken using footpath closures and a two-phase road closure, to minimise disruption.
Phase one: Monday 30 September to Sunday 20 October – Access will be restricted due to a localised road closure adjacent to the police station for the construction of the footway widening – during this time a footpath closure will be in place. It is expected that within the last week of the first phase of the works the road will be closed between Fernlea Care Home and the police station for up to two days to allow for the installation of two road humps.
Phase two: Monday 21 October to Friday 8 November – Access will be restricted due to a localised road closure adjacent to No. 18 Pearson Park (east of Pearson Park/Park Road junction) for the construction of the footway widening – during this time a footpath closure will be in place. Similarly to Phase one, it is expected that within the last week of phase two that the road will be closed between Park Road and Pearson Avenue for up to two days, to allow for the installation of the two remaining road humps.
Access will be maintained for residents and emergency vehicles, with diversion routes in place.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “We are committed to improving and enhancing the safety of our road network and the new traffic calming measures on Pearson Park are a significant step towards achieving that goal.
“By reducing vehicle speeds and widening the footpath, not only are we improving safety, but we are providing an accessible walking environment for everyone in the community.
“This scheme also aligns with our broader community plan for Hull to create more inclusive neighbourhoods as well as make the city healthier, fairer and more environmentally friendly.
“We would like to thank our residents for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.”
The scheme has been funded by the local area team and councillors and will be completed by M.B Roche & Sons Limited on behalf of the council.
