The Women Into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) initiative has won the Best Partnership Award at the Catch 2020 Annual Awards.
The public/private sector partnership is designed to raise the awareness of career paths in manufacturing and engineering for school girls and women.
The awards ceremony, which celebrate successes in industry, took place online for the first time.
WiMe encourages businesses to recruit a diverse workforce and employ more women in manufacturing and engineering roles.
The project is supported by the Humber local authorities and the Department for Work and Pensions, as well as more than 55 private sector businesses specialising in the manufacturing and engineering industry.
Thousands of girls from primary, secondary, further and higher education have attended events, read inspiring literature created by the partnership, watched videos and visited businesses on workplace visits as part of the movement.
Kirsty Clode, chair of WiME, said: “Since its inception in 2016, WiME has gone from strength to strength and is impacting on the career choices made by women and girls in the region. Engineering and manufacturing sectors offer varied, rewarding and well-paid career opportunities and I am thrilled to see WiME and its partners receiving the recognition they deserve.”
