Pet cremator construction works underway

Construction has begun to create a pet cremator at Hull City Council’s Priory Woods Cemetery.

It will allow grieving pet owners the opportunity to have their beloved pet carefully and respectfully dealt with by an experienced bereavement officer in a peaceful, local environment.

Cremations are expected to be available from early spring, where owners will have the option of booking a same-day appointment to deliver their pet to Priory Woods following their passing.

They would usually receive their pet’s ashes within 5 working days.

Hull City Council’s portfolio holder covering cemeteries and crematoria, Councillor Ted Dolman, said: “We know that the loss of a beloved pet shouldn’t be underestimated, as it can be just as hard as losing any member of the family.

“It’s important that people in Hull have the option of their pet being cremated in the city, rather than them having to go potentially hours away as can currently be the case.

“Our experienced bereavement officers offer the utmost standard of care, and can discuss memorial options, which might include having ashes scattered at the on-site pet garden (below).”

Hull Pet Cremations by Hull City Council understands that pets are part of the family too, and owners can be assured that their beloved pet will be treated with care and respect.

Large dogs and any other smaller pets can be catered for, where appointments would either be booked directly or through a vet.

The pet cremator at Priory Woods Cemetery will be used for pets only, and is completely separate to the human cremator used at Chanterlands Crematorium.
