Hull City Council is set to begin essential resurfacing works on three streets in the north of the city, as part of its ongoing investment.

The works will take place on Marsdale and Newtondale in Sutton Park as well as Sheldon close in Bransholme, and will involve resurfacing and reconstructing sections of the footpaths which have deteriorated over time.

Once completed, the new footpaths will provide a smoother, safer, and more accessible surface for all users.

Works are scheduled to begin on Monday 26 October 2026 and are expected to be completed by Friday 15 January 2027, weather permitting.

The scheme will be delivered in three phases:

  • Marsdale – Monday 26 October to Tuesday 10 November 2026
  • Newtondale – Wednesday 11 November to Friday 4 December 2026
  • Sheldon Close – Monday 7 December 2026 to Friday 15 January 2027 (with a two week pause over the Christmas period)

To enable the works to be carried out safely, the footpaths will be closed. However, signed diversions will be in place, and access will be maintained for residents.

Letters have been delivered to affected residents and businesses outlining the works, disruption expected and contact details should they require any further information.

The footpaths are showing signs of deterioration.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council said: “Well-maintained footpaths play an important role in helping people travel safely around their neighbourhoods every day, whether that’s walking to school, catching public transport or accessing local services.

“These improvements will not only deliver a better experience for pedestrians but will also help prevent more extensive and costly repairs in the future.

“We would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and understanding while these essential works are carried out.”

The works will be completed by RJR Group on behalf of the council.

James Bannon, contracts manager at RJR Group said: “We are delighted that we have been appointed as the successful contractor to deliver key footpath construction and resurfacing works on behalf of Hull City Council.

“These important works will help create safer, smoother and more accessible footpaths for Hull residents, improving everyday journeys and enhancing the local environment for pedestrians, families and communities.

“We are proud to have been entrusted with this programme and look forward to working alongside Hull City Council to deliver lasting improvements for the people of Hull.”
