Major improvement work is to be carried out on two arterial routes in the west of the city.
Hessle Road and Anlaby Road will undergo extensive resurfacing works as part of a phased programme to improve the routes for motorists and cyclists.
The phased roadworks will start on Monday 28 September. Hessle Road will complete on Monday 26 February 2021, work in Anlaby Road will finish on Saturday 6 March.
Works in Hessle Road will begin in Coltman Street to Marmaduke Street with a full closure. A diversion will be in place for buses and large vehicles, and smaller cars will be able to by-pass the works using the side streets.
Work to improve the road surface will take place between Monday – Friday, 7am – 7pm, Saturday 8am – 7pm, and Sundays 10am – 4pm.
Business in the Hessle Road area have been informed and will be kept up-to-date with the scheme’s progress throughout the programme.

Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for economic investment and regeneration, said: “We understand that over the next six months there will some congestion as these critical works take place, but this is why we are undertaking them in phases so that we can minimise disruption.
“The works are taking place outside of the city centre, demonstrating the council’s overall commitment to expanding Hull’s transport network by investing in schemes to repair worn road surfaces.”
Work in Anlaby Road will begin with phase two and four of the programme in order to minimise traffic disruption. Phases 1 – 6 will involve day and night lane closures, and traffic will still be able to use part of the carriageway.
Phases 7 – 9 will only involve night time road closures, from 7pm to 6am. Signed traffic diversions will be in place. And during phases A-C day and night closures will be required however traffic management will be in place.

As part of a second phase of works, the footpaths will also be upgraded to ensure safe access for pedestrians and improve the environment for businesses.
The work forms part of the major investment into key transport routes, which started in Holderness Road last week.
Work in Hessle Road will be carried out by Wright Civil Engineering, and work in Anlaby Road will be carried out by PBS Construction.
