Special one-off talk by Michael Peppiatt

Francis Bacon’s close friend and confidant Michael Peppiatt will visit Ferens Art Gallery on Thursday 7 September to give a unique talk on the artist’s life and work.

This special one-off talk ‘Francis Bacon: An intimate Portrait’ will see Michael Peppiatt reflecting on Francis Bacon’s career, looking at select pieces of work and combining the story of his life with the incredible art that he produced, as well as displaying images from Michael’s personal collection.

Prolific writer, art historian and curator Michael Peppiatt published his book ‘Francis Bacon in Your Blood: A Memoir’ and was named The Sunday Times art book of the year and it was chosen as Radio 4’s Book of the Week. According to Andrew Lambirth, from The Art Newspaper, Peppiatt is arguably the finest art writer of his generation, December 2012.

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Hull City Council Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Tourism and Chair of Hull Culture & Leisure Limited, said: “We are extremely fortunate and honoured to welcome Michael Peppiatt to the gallery, this unique talk is particularly special as we display the year-long loan of Bacon’s Head V1 (1949) from the Arts Council Collection.”

Michael Peppiatt was aged 21 when he first met Francis Bacon; during a 30 year relationship he gained an incredible insight into the life and mind of the celebrated artist and his work.

This unique talk will take place at the Ferens Art Gallery on Thursday 7 September, 6pm (doors open at 5.30pm). Book signing will also take place at the end of the event.
