Hull City Council will stand in solidarity with Ukraine as the country marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.
With the flag of Ukraine continuing to fly at the Guildhall, Queen Victoria Square will be illuminated in blue and yellow from dusk tomorrow, Tuesday 24 February.
As a City of Sanctuary, Hull has welcomed displaced Ukrainians via the Homes for Ukraine scheme, as well as those who arrived on the family visa scheme.
The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Mike Ross, said: “As we have done throughout the entire war, we continue to show our support to the people of Ukraine, and pay tribute to them and the way they have endured everything in the last 4 years.
“While there will still be some people in our city who remember the devastating effects of war from the 1940s, it will be hard for most to truly appreciate the horrors the Ukrainian people have experienced in recent times.
“As much as we can do, we remain steadfast in our opposition to Russia’s actions, and our solidarity will continue with Ukraine throughout.”
Hull is joining a global initiative of showing support for Ukraine, where thoughts will turn to the hundreds of thousands of people who left their homes to seek safety for their families in the UK.
