Primary schools, secondary schools, special schools and colleges will open to all pupils from Monday 8 March.
Primary school pupils will all return on Monday 8 March, and secondary and college pupils will return on a phased basis over that week.
Schools will continue to work in bubbles, as they did last year, and social distancing will be implemented where possible. Hand washing stations will be used frequently and cleaning regimes will continue to be stringent.
Councillor Peter Clark, Hull City Council’s portfolio holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children said: “Once again, we are working in close partnership with our schools to achieve a city wide approach to continuing education in school, whilst providing a safe learning environment.”
Teaching staff, secondary pupils and college students will once again be asked to wear face coverings in communal areas, where social distancing cannot be maintained, such as corridors, as well as in classrooms if social distancing isn’t possible. Primary school teachers will also be required to wear face coverings in communal areas, where they are unable to social distance.
Secondary school pupils will take three Covid tests in the first week of return, college students in the first two weeks, at existing school or college testing facilities. Home testing will be requested twice a week thereafter. To ensure all secondary and college pupils can have these tests upon return, secondary schools and colleges will work on a phased basis of return over the week beginning 8 March. Secondary schools and colleges will be in touch with families directly with further details.
Primary, secondary, special school and college staff will also take a home test twice a week. All pupils, parents and staff will be given information and shown a video about how to take a test correctly.
All nursery staff will also have access to twice weekly home testing and childminders can access community testing.
