1. Sea; The Remains Between

This new photography exhibition features people from Hull submerged in water (yes, that’s right) is on display at Ferens Art Gallery now. Sea; the Remains Between is the latest in an award-winning series of work from visual artist and filmmaker Estabrak.

The photographs feature people from diverse communities in Hull portrayed submerged in water. They were taken in natural and man-made bodies of water in the region. Learn more here.

2. The Winter Show
Studio Eleven, Humber Street

This show marks the finale of the Studio Eleven celebrations of a decade of creative residence on Humber Street in Hull.

From the Jurassic Coastline to the boulder clay of the Humber Region, the chalk line brings these artists together for an exhibition featuring contemporary ceramics by Julie Massie, Adele Howitt, Martin Harman and Emma Williams among the artists, with paintings by Deborah Grice and Myles Linley. 3. Nnena Kalu: Wrapping

Nnena Kalu’s colourful sculptures are created by layering and binding materials such as industrial plastic tubing, newspaper, foam, cling film, fabric and tape.

Kalu will construct a series of large-scale sculptures which wrap around the gallery, responding to the unique architecture of the Project Space. Learn more here.

4. Tour of Hull’s museums

Would you like to travel back in time to 235 million years ago to encounter sea monsters, Romans and a life-sized woolly mammoth? Us too! The Museums Quarter in Hull’s Old Town includes the Hull and East Riding Museum of Archaeology, Streetlife Museum of Transport and Wilberforce House, the birthplace of William Wilberforce who dedicated much of his life to the abolition of the slave trade.

Add to this the Maritime Museum in Queen Victoria Square and you see why the city’s museums are envied by the rest of the north– and they are totally free. Learn more here.

We love a Christmas lights switch-on – so much so that we are even willing to consider venturing across the border into the East Riding to watch as this Beverley shopping hub is illuminated.
