Free parking in city centre multi-storeys this Christmas

Hull City Council is offering free parking in its two multi-storey car parks on Saturdays and Sundays, and extended opening during late night shopping on Thursdays leading up to Christmas and the New Year.
Shoppers and visitors will be able to park in George Street and Pryme Street multi-storey car parks for free every weekend between Saturday 2 until Sunday 31 December, and extended opening between 7 – 9.30pm on Thursday nights.

During the festive period both George Street and Pryme Street car parks will be open from 7am on Saturday morning until Monday evening at 7pm continuously, allowing motorists to park their cars for free over the two-day weekend.

Councillor Alan Clark, Portfolio Holder for Streetscene, said:

“We hope by suspending the charges to over 1,000 car parking spaces in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year by offering free parking on weekends, it will have a knock on effect and boost trade in local shops and encourage families to find somewhere quick, easy and accessible to park to do their shopping in the city centre.”

Kathryn Shillito, city centre manager for Hull Bid:

“I’m delighted that Hull City Council are again offering free parking in their Pryme Street and George Street car parks. December is an extremely important time of the year for our retailers and undoubtedly free parking makes shopping in Hull city centre more appealing.

“In the festive period, the city centre will be buzzing with activity and we would urge everyone to make use of this free facility and shop local.”

Opening hours for the multi-storey car parks during Christmas are from 7am until 7pm, Monday – Wednesday, 7am until 9.30pm on Thursday, 7am until 7pm Friday – Saturday, and 9am until 4pm on Sundays.

On the two sites providing free parking on weekends, no ticket or purchase is required, however on-street and surface car parks are still chargeable seven days a week.
